Hair Extension Methods – Applying Do It Yourself Hair Extensions
There are several hair extension methods available today. Depending on what you are looking to get out of your hair extensions, a certain method may be better than another. Many things go into selecting what type of application process you want including how long you are going to wear the extensions to what type of hair you have but it is important to first understand what goes into each form of extension. The most popular forms of hair extension applications are : weaving, fusion, bonding and clip ins, the most popular do it yourself hair extensions.
Hair Extension Methods
Clips ins are, as the name implies, hair extensions that are clipped into your hair using a special clip. Clip ins are the most temporary of the extensions and, as a result, the easiest do it yourself hair extensions. Clip ins should be applied to your hair as close to the base as possible.
Weaving is when the hair extensions are actually woven into your hair using a needle to sew the extensions onto strands of your hair. A stylist usually does this form of extension at a salon and the process can be quite uncomfortable due to the tight weave so that the extensions remain fixed in place. Over time, extensions that are woven may need to be retightened as necessary and, thus, need to be checked to make sure they are still properly attached and do not need adjustment. Weaving can be done with the help of a friend, but generally is not used by many as do it yourself hair extensions.
There are two different types of fusion; cold and warm. These extensions have a special tip that has a special chemical on them so that when an applicator gun is applied they will fuse to your hair. This type of bonding is relatively long lasting and holds well and usually needs to be removed by a stylist. They can also use loops that are then tightened around the hair strand.
Extensions that are attached through bonding use glue or other bonding agent to attach the extension to your hair and this type of extension is usually applied to individual strands. These extensions usually need a specific remover to be applied in order to break the bond that is created with your hair in order to take them out. These types of extensions can damage your hair and are not suited to do it yourself hair extensions
